Olivia C. Avery

Artist Statement:

I create both elevated functional ceramics and decorative sculpture—translating my clay work from the table to the wall. Because so many of us spend our lives indoors, my core goal is to bring the outside in, fostering a return to connection, nature, and peace. Through vibrant color, rhythm, and deeply tactile patterns, I aim to capture the raw spirit and energy of plant life. Each form is wheel-thrown or hand-built, then meticulously hand-painted, stained, and slip and glaze-trailed. By freehanding every botanical motif, the process remains intuitive, ensuring that while the work is cohesive, each piece maintains its own subtle, unique identity. Ultimately, this dual practice is how I process my environment, creating tangible spaces of natural peace.
